What's in your make-up bag? I have too much make-up for a bag (I'm not boasting I just love make-up!). I have a drawer stuffed with make-up, skin products and samples!! It's a mess....or should I say it was a mess! With Spring in the air, I love nothing more than a good clear out!
The transition from Winter to Spring is a good time to get rid of old, stale make-up and introduce more Spring tones to your make-up collection. It's also a great time to "Get the Glow" back into your skin by freshening up your skincare routine.
Since taking on the brand and being trained with Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup I have pretty much switched to using Jane Iredale. After moisturising and applying Dermalogica SkinPerfect Primer SPF30, I apply Glowtime BB7 Liquid Foundation which is a full coverage foundation, concealer and SPF in one product! I love its creamy full coverage texture which leaves my skin looking flawless. I then follow with Amazing Base Golden Glow loose mineral powder which gives my skin a lovely luminous glow! I then spritz my base make-up with Jane Iredale Pommist which sets the minerals and smells yummy! I then apply blush to my cheeks, usually Pure Pressed Sheer Honey which is a lovely peachy brown shade or Mystique which is a lovely pink shade. I then follow with Mascara! My favourite mascara at the moment is one from Avon called Super Extend Extreme! I love the brush which has really fine teeth that helps to separate the lashes! I only need one coat because of my LVL Lashes! I'm a massive mascara fan and like to try different ones. My favourites are Lancome Hypnose and Maybelline Smoky Eyes Mascara. Finally lip gloss - this varies...anyone who has stood in my hallway can see my glosses lined up along my hallway mirror! I love Avon Glazewear in nude pink and peach shades, which are similar to my natural lip colour. I also love Lancome Juicy Tubes Lip gloss in Lychee! I don't often wear lipstick and sometimes I like no colour but a bit of gloss. I usually use Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream as a gloss (it has multiple uses and one of my all time favourite products) and recently I purchased Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips which is similar to 8 Hour cream but has no smell!
I've just described my daytime make-up routine. I don't wear eye shadow or accentuate my brows unless I'm going out in the evening and then I tend to go for smokey eyes, liquid liner flick and define my eyebrows with an eyebrow shadow.
How old is your make-up? Needless to say, I managed to throw out quite a lot of old make-up in my make-up clear out blitz! With Jane Iredale, the powder foundations and blushers never go off! They literally last forever! They do not harbour bacteria which makes it a great investment for your kit. Liquid foundations, mascaras, lip glosses, lipsticks etc generally have a use by date - with foundations it's is usually 12-24 months from opening and they say you should replace your mascara every 6 months.
How often should you wash your make-up brushes? Ideally every week! I wash mine in antibacterial soap and wash until all the make-up residue is washed away. Then I let them air dry and spritz with Jane Iredale Botanical Brush Cleaner. This not only smells amazing but it cleans your brushes. It can be sprayed on your brushes every day to keep them clean between washes! Cleaning your brushes is so important because of all the bacteria they can harbour. Dirty brushes can cause congestion on the skin including blocked pores and blackheads. Brushes can be a big investment and if you look after them they can last years!
I was planning on making a VLOG to go with this blog to show you how quickly I can apply my make-up and go from "Scary to School Run" in less than 5 minutes! I need to work up the courage to go completely make-up free first!!
This Spring why don't you have a Spring clean of your make-up bag? Or even better, bring yourself and your make-up bag to me and I will help you! If you book in for my new "Get the Glow" Facial, I will help you give your make-up bag a spring clean, wash and clean your make-up brushes and give you a Spring Makeover! What more could you want, glowing skin and a wonderful make-up makeover to put a spring in your step (sorry I've been dying to use that phrase!).
OK so who wants to see the transformation of my messy drawer to my minimalist daytime make-up bag? Please don't judge me....
BEFORE...As if it wasn't bad enough but my mirrored dressing table is reflecting the terrible state of my drawers even more! A drawer Tracey Emin would be proud of!
AFTER...All lined up. Notice my little pink dobber (I'm sure you were wondering what that was?!) ! I recently discovered this handy little tool which is a sponge for apply foundation! Gets into all the nooks and crannies of my face without leaving brush marks! Great for blending!
Lovely clean brushes!
Now show me yours!! xxx
