Beauty Bug is 10!!

I can’t believe that it’s been 10 years since I made the decision to start my own business, and what an amazing journey it has been.  Grab yourself a cuppa and relax while you read all about how Beauty Bug came to be….
I had always wanted to work in the Beauty industry and had particular interest in one day running my own business.  After finishing a degree in Biology, I took a temping job working as an Admin Assistant for a small charity based in London.  After a few weeks I was taken on full time and 11 years later was Finance & Office Manager.

Why getting a manicure is actually really good for you

Our hands work so hard and it is important to treat our hands and nails like "jewels" not tools! There are so many benefits to having a regular manicure! It's not just about having pretty painted nails....a Beauty Bug manicure includes hand soak in warm soapy water to clean the skin and nails and soften the cuticles. The hands are then exfoliated to get rid of dead skin cells and to soften and smooth the skin. The cuticles are pushed back and dead skin removed. This is then followed by a relaxing deep tissue hand massage which helps to improve blood circulation and improves mobility for the joints.

There's nothing I love more at the weekend than a lovely soak in the bath and kindle time!  I also love to give my skin a good weekly facial and apply a masque to work on my skin while I relax!

Depending on how my skin is looking and feeling I like to use a couple of different masques on my skin to make sure I am treating any skin problems.  

My main skincare concerns are ageing (fine lines around my eyes and laughter lines), congestion (blackeads) on my nose and chin and dryness/dehydration on my cheeks.

Charcoalis the big beauty buzzword for 2017! It's no secret that activated charcoal is considered a powerhouse when it comes to adding a boost to your skincare regimen.  So what is it and how does it benefit your skin?

I've been "Clean eating" on and off (mostly on) for over a year now and when I am in the "zone" I feel great!  Clean eating and exercise (motivated by my lovely friend and fitness guru Teresa Wall) has been the only way that I have managed to lose weight, tone up and keep the weight off.  Taking control of my diet and fitness has resulted in me feeling generally less stressed out and a much happier person!

Then the Summer holidays happened.

How excited was I to be told by one of my clients that she had just been reading my beauty tips in a magazine!!

A few months ago I was approached by the Deputy Editor of Tesco Magazine asking me to provide expert quotes on a DIY Facial- a treatment that someone could do at home on a Sunday night!

This month, the article came out (sadly my local Tesco doesn't have it in yet) but my client kindly gave me her copy!

So I thought that this month, I would bask in the glory of my article and base my blog on it and add in a few of my favourite products!

Is your moisturiser damaging your bones?

As a skin therapist I promote skin health and advise all of my clients to use a moisturiser with an SPF to protect the skin against UV which can lead to premature aging, pigmentation, skin damage and Cancer.

Spring Clean your Make-up Bag!

What's in your make-up bag?  I have too much make-up for a bag (I'm not boasting I just love make-up!).  I have a drawer stuffed with make-up, skin products and samples!! It's a mess....or should I say it was a mess!  With Spring in the air, I love nothing more than a good clear out!

The transition from Winter to Spring is a good time to get rid of old, stale make-up and introduce more Spring tones to your make-up collection. It's also a great time to "Get the Glow" back into your skin by freshening up your skincare routine.
